CYNTHIANA — A man who confessed to killing his girlfriend after allegedly trying to run over two Bourbon County jail employees pleaded not guilty to murder Tuesday.

Earlier this month, a Harrison County grand jury indicted Bass Webb, 30, of Means on charges of capital murder in the death of Bryia Runiewicz of Cynthiana and being a persistent felony offender.

Webb, who also faces two counts of attempted murder in Bourbon County, was arrested July 31 after the incident at the jail. Investigators say Webb confessed to killing Runiewicz, 32, who was later found dead at her home on New Lair Road in Cynthiana.

Webb is scheduled to return to court in Harrison County on Nov. 17.

Runiewicz's sister, Dorothy Wilson, did not want to discuss the case after Webb's court appearance. But she said the family is "struggling day by day."

Wilson said her mother has custody of Runiewicz's two young daughters, who started having nightmares after their mother's death.

"They're just really angry," Wilson said of the girls.
