The mascot for Lexington's professional basketball team, the Bluegrass Stallions, is getting a makeover because of a phone call from an attorney for the Indianapolis Colts.

Indianapolis attorney Dan Emerson, who represents the NFL team, confirmed that he contacted Stallions owner Tony Chase about two months ago after noticing the similarities between the blue horse that is the Stallions as yet unnamed mascot and Blue, the Colts' mascot.

Emerson said he had a cordial conversation with Chase.

Chase said he was not aware of the similarities until Emerson called him.

"I neither agreed nor disagreed that they were too similar," Chase said. "I just know that I was in no mood for a legal fight with the Colts and felt that it was wise to ask the mascot designer to make us a new head, free of charge, which he has agreed to do."

Chase said the face on the new mascot will be "more elongated and less cartoonish" than the original. "It is still a horse, obviously, but different in style," he said.

Stallions' officials are holding a contest through the end of October to name the mascot.

The new American Basketball Association team is scheduled to begin play in November.
