Lexington Catholic took a 13-0 lead over No. 2 Trinity deep into the third quarter Friday night but missed the upset when Xavier Thomas scored from a yard out with 21 seconds left. Cooper Bohn's extra point gave the Shamrocks a 14-13 victory in the regular-season finale.
Trinity (6-4) is 15-1 all-time when playing in Lexington.
No. 19 Catholic (6-4) got second-quarter touchdown runs of 16 and 21 yards by Greg Raglin, who totaled 163 yards on 26 carries. However, the Knights converted one of two PAT kicks.
Earlier, the Knights missed on a 28-yard field-goal try and lost a fumble at the Trinity 19. Catholic also came up empty in the red zone in the fourth quarter, fumbling on the Rocks' 10.
Thomas got Trinity's first score on a 1-yard run with 13 seconds left in the third quarter. That capped an 85-yard, 13-play drive. His other score completed a 54-yard, eight-play possession.
Bryan Station 25, North Hardin 6: With Chaz Mitchell scoring three touchdowns, Bryan Station netted all its points in a second-quarter span of 2:22 at North Hardin.
The Defenders (8-2) closed their regular-season schedule in dominating fashion.
Mitchell scored on runs of 81 and 57 yards, as well as a 79-yard kickoff return. A North Hardin fumble in its end zone resulted in a safety, and Octavius Crutcher dropped Nayim Johnson for a 4-yard loss on a pass play for another safety.
Mitchell ran five times for 143 yards and finished with 222 all-purpose yards.
The Defenders outrushed the Trojans 240 yards to 41. Crutcher and Jordan Taylor led Station with five tackles each.
Tates Creek 33, Woodford Co. 27: At Versailles, the Commodores racked up 19 first-quarter points. Both teams are now 5-5.
Jontez Jones ran 10 times for 89 yards, including scores of 42 and 36 yards. Dee Christopher went 9-for-12 passing, good for 56 yards and a 9-yard TD to Cam Ruddell, and Brandon Shrout scored on a 42-yard interception return.
Tyler Love's 1-yard TD run early in the fourth quarter gave the Commodores a 33-14 lead.
Woodford, held to a pair of Brandon Campbell touchdowns to that point, added fourth-quarter scores on a 36-yard pass from Matt Couch to Jacob Wade and a 4-yard run by Kristian Larsen. Campbell's scores came on a 4-yard burst and a 15-yard pass from Couch.
Henry Clay 47, Paul Dunbar 0: Dunbar's first two possessions ended with interceptions, and Henry Clay converted both into scores. The Blue Devils (8-2) added a third pick, bringing their season total to 22.
Ryan McCray returned the first theft for a 25-yard TD.
Bo Brooks paced the winners with 111 yards on nine carries, including two touchdowns. Shan Howell and Anthony Lindsey also ran for a TD each, and Jerry Williams passed to Tyrelle Johnson for another. Matt Cox scored on an 89-yard punt return.
Fern Creek 27, Scott Co. 19: At Georgetown, Bryan Hynes passed for 226 yards and three touchdowns as Fern Creek dealt the Cardinals their second loss in a row. Both teams are 7-3.
Hynes, completing 20 of 28 passes, connected with Carlos Smith for scores of 38 and 5 yards, and with Taj Jarrett from 18 yards out. Jerrell Moore scored on a 91-yard kickoff return.
Scott County's Josh Walls ran 21 times for 110 yards, including a 6-yard touchdown. The Cardinals also tallied on runs of 27 yards by Marcus Hill and 2 yards by Jay Willmott.
Estill Co. 42, Madison Southern 40: Kenton Roberts ran for five touchdowns as the Engineers (6-4) won a shootout on the road and spoiled a big night by Rico Brown.
Roberts scored from 11, 8, 13, 80 and 3 yards. Randy Davidson added a 15-yard TD.
Brown led Southern (1-9) with five TDs and catch a pass for another. The senior totaled 230 yards on 19 rushes, plus 64 yards on his lone grab.
His rush TDs covered 54, 2, 4, 26 and 70 yards.
Bell Co. 41, Harlan Co. 14: Cory Davenport scampered for 149 yards and scored three touchdowns as the Bobcats ended Harlan County's hopes of a district title.
Bell County (9-1) is unbeaten against in-state teams, its loss coming to Alcoa, Tenn.
Harlan County (7-3) got two scores from T.J. Green.
West Carter 28, Powell Co. 14: Danny Cline ran 12 times for 112 yards, including touchdowns of 48 and 24 yards, to propel West (5-5) at home. Josh Cundiff added TDs on runs of 2 and 11 yards.
Timmy Hardy scored both touchdowns for Powell (2-8).
Holmes 23, Harrison Co. 7: The Bulldogs (8-2) clinched a district title behind 252 rushing yards from the trio of Greg Clemons (91 yards, two TDs), Damian Oden (84, one TD) and Jesse Jensen (77).
The Thorobreds (5-5) scored when Brandon Barnett recovered a second-quarter blocked punt in the end zone.
