The Kentucky League of Cities has formed a task force to look at compensation for staff members, according to KLC President Mike Miller.

The task force will review compensation processes and procedures for employees and executive management, including the executive director/CEO.

Compensation was one of the reasons former Executive Director Sylvia Lovely was forced to resign earlier this year. Many board members did not know her salary level — $331,000 in 2009 — which was based on recommendations by a St. Louis consulting group. Salaries were included in the budget but never discussed by the whole executive board, board members said.

Members of the Task Force include Bowling Green Mayor Elaine Walker, Corbin City Manager Bill Ed Cannon, Midway Mayor Tom Bozarth, Williamstown Mayor Glenn Caldwell and Miller, the mayor of Jackson.

The task force held its first meeting in October and will meet again in November, Miller said.

"We had a conversation about where we think we need to be," Miller said.

The group also discussed the job description for the executive director's job, which will be open in January after Lovely resignation takes effect, including pay connected to performance.

"We know the next executive director won't make $331,000 but we know they won't make $100,000 either," Miller said.
