UK team places highly in national biz competition

November 9, 2009

Students from the University of Kentucky's Gatton College of Business & Economics placed highly in the 2009 Wall Street Journal National Biz Quiz competition this past weekend.

UK student Jeff Wei placed third among 54 students in the individual competition.

Gatton's team of Wei, Kent Mulberry and Andrew DuPerrieu placed seventh of 18 groups in the team competition.

The event was held at Ohio State University's Fisher College of Business.

The competition's questions were taken from six weeks of Wall Street Journals on a variety of topics.

Last year, UK student Jeffrey Howard placed first in the individual competition, and the team placed fourth of 24 teams.

"As with last year's team, these students, along with alternate Joseph Craft, not only made us proud of their accomplishments, but also proud of their tremendous effort to study outside of the classroom, and to represent the university so well," said UK senior lecturer Gordon Holbein, who advised the team.
