Two Lexington U.S. Postal Service locations will reduce hours to cut expenses.

The retail windows at the Post Rider Station, 210 E. High Street, and the Gardenside Station, 1729 Alexandria Drive, will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday beginning Dec. 1. The windows have been open at 8 a.m.

Other post offices are likely adjust to their retail hours in the next few weeks, according to a news release from the U.S. Postal Service. The changes will not affect mail delivery.

The U.S. Postal Service expects a budget shortfall in fiscal year 2010 because of the economic recession and a significant decrease in mail volume, the news release said.
