A Taylor Mill man has pleaded guilty to federal charges that he used his deceased father-in-law's credit card accounts to buy merchandise.

James Gilbert, 45, pleaded guilty Tuesday to aggravated identity theft in U.S. District Court, according to the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky. Gilbert admitted to trying to steal more than $25,700 by using the credit cards and Bank of America convenience checks written on his late father-in-law's account. Some of the checks were used to pay off some of the fraudulent credit card charges he had made, the news release stated.

Gilbert is scheduled to be sentenced April 20 in Covington. He faces a mandatory prison sentence of two years.
