Lexington police charge juvenile in November slaying

Published: January 7, 2010

A 16-year-old boy has been taken into custody in the November slaying of a Lexington teen.

The boy, who has not been identified because he is a juvenile, is accused in the shooting death of Ali Shalash, 17, who was shot in the head Nov. 23 in the 2000 block of Dorset Drive. He later died at University of Kentucky Hospital.

The boy was charged Thursday with murder, tampering with physical evidence and being a minor in possession of a handgun, Lexington police Lt. Doug Pape said. The boy was one of two witnesses taken in for questioning at the time of the shooting, Pape said.

The teen is being held in juvenile detention.
