The state House overwhelmingly approved funding for construction of a $4 million airplane hangar at Bluegrass Station at Avon, where several military contractors have operations.

The U.S. Department of Defense has requested that construction of the hangar begin by March 1. It would be responsible for making lease payments to cover construction costs, said Rep. Don Pasley, D-Winchester.

The hangar would allow contractors to create 105 new jobs during the next two years at the complex, a former Army Depot.

The measure passed 93-2 with two Democratic lawmakers from Louisville, Reps. Mary Lou Marzian and Jim Wayne, the only "no" votes. The bill now heads to the Senate.
