Dunlap repeats as SEC player of week; UK No. 17 in AP poll
For the second consecutive week, Kentucky's Victoria Dunlap was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week by the league office Monday.
In UK's two wins over Ole Miss and Arkansas last week, Dunlap averaged 20 points and nine rebounds. She now has seven double-doubles and nine games with 20 or more points this season. Dunlap is ranked in the top five of six statistical categories in the SEC, including leading the conference in steals per game (3.3).
Kentucky moved up to No. 17 in the latest Associated Press poll released on Monday. The Cats rank second in the conference standings and have won eight of their first 10 SEC games for the first time in school history.
They will attempt to tie the school record for most SEC wins in a season (nine) against Georgia at Memorial Coliseum on Thursday night.
COLLEGE BASKETBALL
House wants Hall in Hall of Fame
Kentucky's state representatives are among the fans who believe that former Kentucky coach Joe B. Hall belongs in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
The Kentucky House approved a resolution on a 97-0 vote Monday that urges Hall's enshrinement in the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Hall, a Kentucky native, compiled a record of 297 wins and 100 losses in 13 seasons as head men's basketball coach at Kentucky. The Wildcats won one national championship during his tenure.
Hall was also an assistant coach for several years at Kentucky under famed coach Adolph Rupp.
NBA
Kaman replaces Roy in All-Star game
Los Angeles Clipper center Chris Kaman will replace the Trail Blazers' Brandon Roy in this weekend's All-Star game. Roy injured his right hamstring last month.
Kaman will be making his first All-Star appearance. He is averaging a career-high 20.2 points and 9.0 rebounds while shooting 50 percent from the field. He's the first Clippers player to be chosen to the All-Star game since Elton Brand in 2006.
Lakers: Kobe Bryant will miss a second consecutive game because of a sore left ankle, Coach Phil Jackson said before Monday night's game against the Spurs.
Pacers: Center Jeff Foster will miss the rest of the season with a back injury. The 6-foot-11 Foster played in 16 games this season and averaged 3.1 points and 5.1 rebounds.
Baseball
Mariners' Lee had foot surgery
The Seattle Mariners say left-hander Cliff Lee is recovering from minor left foot surgery and will be limited when pitchers and catchers report to spring training this month. The team announced Monday that its biggest off-season acquisition had surgery Friday in his native Arkansas to remove a bone spur that broke loose and was floating in his left foot.
Lee was acquired from Philadelphia this winter in a complicated four-team deal. His injured foot is not in a cast, and he is continuing his upper-body exercise program. The Mariners says the 2008 AL Cy Young Award winner will "gradually return to all normal baseball activities" over the next two to three weeks.
White Sox: Chicago is taking Hall of Famer Luis Aparicio's number 11 out of retirement for newly acquired 11-time Gold Glove winner Omar Vizquel. A Venezuelan like Aparicio, Vizquel will wear the number as a tribute to his countryman.
Yankees: Randy Winn and the Yankees have finalized a $1.1 million, one-year contract. The deal, reached Jan. 27 subject to a physical, pretty much eliminated any chance Johnny Damon had of returning to the World Series champions. The 35-year-old Winn, who figures to share playing time in left field with Brett Gardner, hit .262 with two homers and 51 RBI for San Francisco last season. Marcus Thames also agreed Monday to a minor-league contract.
Cardinals: Second baseman Skip Schumaker and St. Louis agreed to a $4.7 million, two-year contract, avoiding an arbitration hearing. Schumaker, who turned 30 on Wednesday, hit .303 with four homers and 35 RBI in 153 games last year. He also switched from the outfield to second base.
Selig to get statue at Miller Park
The Milwaukee Brewers are erecting a statue of baseball commissioner Bud Selig outside Miller Park and will unveil it on Aug. 24.
Selig headed a group that bought the Seattle Pilots in bankruptcy court in 1970, moved the franchise to Milwaukee and renamed it the Brewers. He became acting commissioner in 1992 and took the job full-time six years later, turning control of the team over to his daughter, Wendy Selig-Prieb. The Selig family sold the team in 2005.

Formula One driver to race Trucks
Former Formula One driver Nelson Piquet Jr. will enter the NASCAR Truck Series race at Daytona International Speedway. Red Horse Racing announced Monday that Piquet will enter the No. 1 Toyota in Friday's race at Daytona.
Winter olympics
Schwarzenegger to carry torch
Arnold Schwarzenegger will hand the Olympic torch off to Sebastian Coe on Friday morning, the day of the opening ceremony at the Vancouver Games. The California governor and the two-time Olympic gold medalist runner were revealed Monday as torch relay participants along with several famous Canadians, including the father of hockey great Wayne Gretzky.
"Clearly we want to have a big finish," said John Furlong, the CEO of the Vancouver organizing committee.
