Kentucky signee Jennifer O'Neill was one of 20 high school seniors selected Tuesday to play in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association High School All-America Game.
O'Neill, a 5-foot-6 point guard, has averaged 22 points, six assists and four steals a game in leading St. Michael Academy of Bronx, N.Y., to a 16-4 record this season.
"I've been really impressed with Jennifer's work ethic," Kentucky Coach Matthew Mitchell said. "She made a commitment to getting even better between her junior and senior seasons, and I think she embodies everything we are about here at Kentucky, and that is honesty, hard work and discipline. I think she has a chance to be a difference-maker on this team."
The 19th annual WBCA All-America Game will be played for the first time this season on the same floor as the NCAA Women's Final Four, at the Alamodome in San Antonio. It will be played April 3, the day before the Final Four begins.
O'Neill, a consensus national top-30 player, is part of a UK recruiting class that also includes guards LaQuinta Jefferson of La Vergne, Tenn.; Kastine Evans of Salem, Conn.; and Maegan Conwright of Arlington, Texas; in addition to forward Sarah Beth Barnette of Lexington Christian Academy.
Coach Matthew Mitchell's class was ranked No. 5 by Blue Star Basketball and No. 10 by ESPN HoopGurlz.
