Random notes:
■ Quite a mysterious morning Wednesday for Kentucky basketball.
Fresh off Tuesday night's 66-55 win over Alabama, UK Coach John Calipari sent a Twitter picture of himself with Patrick Patterson, Eric Bledsoe, DeMarcus Cousins and John Wall posing for a photo shoot to accompany an article in the March issue of Slam magazine.
The players are all wearing what appear to be the new Kentucky basketball uniforms, which are expected to make their debut Saturday night for the UK-Tennessee College GameDay broadcast.
One problem. On closer inspection, you can see that on the front of Wall's jersey, the name of the school is spelled K-E-N-T-C-U-K-Y.
And, as usually happens, plenty of people on the Internet noticed it. They commented on it. They made fun of it.
Then Calipari put out a tweet saying, "We were wondering would you guys notice the Wall jersey." Cal said they reshot the photo later on. But why would the Web-savvy Calipari post a picture with such an obvious error on the unforgiving Internet?
Someone needs to be charged with a turnover.
■ Speaking of uniforms, does Kentucky, or any team, really need new uniforms well past the midpoint of the season? Or does Nike just need another reason to draw consumers to the mall?
■ By the way, it was Calipari's 51st birthday Wednesday. One friend noted that, considering John's new math, he probably told the team he is 37.
■ Vanderbilt shot 43 free throws Tuesday night in its 90-71 trouncing of Tennessee. Here's the truly amazing stat: The Commodores made 37. That's 86 percent.
■ Eric Bledsoe said Tuesday he thinks the team is a bit worn down. John Wall agreed. Or Wall did between coughs. The freshman is under the weather. Both said they have already played more games than they were accustomed to in high school. Plus, there is schoolwork and media demands. "We just have to fight through it," Bledsoe said.
■ We're supposed to take them one game at a time. But that Feb. 25 UK-Tennessee women's date in Knoxville sure needs a calendar circle.
■ A huge fan here, but I admit The Who's Super Bowl halftime show was awful, as in awfully boring.
■ After Cincinnati lost to visiting Syracuse on Sunday, UC Coach Mick Cronin called the Orange "the best team in the country."
■ John Wall, Devan Downey and DeMarcus Cousins are all great candidates to be the Southeastern Conference's Most Outstanding Player, but Arkansas' Courtney Fortson might be the most valuable. Without Fortson, Arkansas was 7-7. With him, the Razorbacks went into Wednesday night's game leading the SEC West with a 5-3 record.
■ Calipari said Monday that UK's tough schedule would not help the Cats during the NCAA Tournament because those are neutral-site games. We in the media informed Cal that when Kentucky is involved, those games are not neutral-site games.
■ Some Louisiana State fans were upset that I described the Tigers as an intramural basketball team. Apparently, those LSU fans — like most LSU fans, judging by attendance at the Pete Maravich Center — have not seen this year's Tigers play.
■ If I had a dollar for every complaint I've heard about ESPN's SEC TV package, I could pay Commissioner Mike Slive to go back to Jefferson Pilot/Raycom/Lincoln Financial.
■ It's easy to see why Tennessee fans loved Tee Martin, even when he was just Peyton Manning's backup. UK's new wide receivers coach still has a baby face and a great smile.
