Two Clay City men were charged with burglary after one of them implicated himself while trying to collect a reward, Powell County Sheriff Danny Rogers said.

Brandon Pennington, 20, and Scotty Moore, 26, allegedly threw a chunk of concrete through the window of McKinney's Food Mart in Clay City about 2:30 a.m. Feb. 4. They left with 17 cartons of cigarettes, Rogers said.

When the store's owner posted a reward for information about the burglary, Pennington sought to collect, Rogers said. He brought an article of clothing that one of the men was seen wearing on surveillance videos and a carton of the stolen cigarettes back to the store.

Rogers said he didn't know how Pennington explained having the items.

Moore and Pennington, who were charged Thursday, were being held in the Powell County jail on $10,000 bond. Rogers said police have identified a third suspect, who acted as a lookout during the burglary, but Rogers declined to release his name.
