Man dies in fall off 50-foot cliff in Red River Gorge

Menifee County: A Kentucky man fell to his death Saturday in the Indian Creek area of the Red River Gorge.

Menifee County Sheriff Rodney Coffey said late Saturday that he would withhold the man's name until his family can be notified. Local rescue agencies were called at 2:29 p.m. about a man who fell about 50 feet off a cliff, Coffey said. The man was camping with friends, who tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate him at the scene, Coffey said.

"It just looks like an accident, but our coroner is reviewing it," the sheriff said.

Dance canceled after two people are shot

Louisville: Two people were shot and wounded outside Louisville's Central High School Friday night during a homecoming basketball game.

Louisville Metro Police spokeswoman Alicia Smiley told The Courier-Journal the victims were a girl who is thought to be 15 and a 19-year-old woman. They both suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Smiley said a man approached the two as they walked along the street, firing several shots. Police did not have a suspect Friday night or a description of the shooter.

Several people reported that there had been a fight earlier in the evening, but it was unclear if the shooting was related.

A homecoming dance was canceled.

Home invaded; man pistol-whipped

Lexington: Police are looking for three armed men who invaded a family's home Friday night, pistol-whipped the husband and escaped on foot with money.

At around 9:30 p.m., the family answered a knock at its front door on Arceme Avenue, just off North Limestone, said police Lt. Chris VanBrackel. Three men masked with bandanas and armed with handguns forced their way into the home and demanded money, VanBrackel said.

The wife immediately produced money from her purse, but the husband resisted and was hit across the head with a gun, VanBrackel said. The husband's cuts later were stitched at St. Joseph Hospital. The men fled toward North Limestone, VanBrackel said. Two children were home during the robbery, but they were not hurt, he said.

Town sends coffee, DVDs to soldiers

Madisonville: The city of Madisonville is collecting coffee and DVDs for a Fort Campbell unit set to deploy in April.

Donations will help stock a coffeehouse that Chaplain Justin Roberts has put together for soldiers of the 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat team of the 101st Airborne Division. Collection boxes have been placed at the police station, in the mayor's office and in the city's utilities office. Above the boxes are pictures of the soldiers.

Man charged with attacking police

Owensboro: An Owensboro man arrested last week on charges that he attacked two police officers has a history that includes an assault that led to the death of an elderly man in 2008. Christopher Lee Jackson, 23, was arrested at his home, accused of striking the officers.

Officers Whitney Adamson and Brad Youngman were sent to the home after Jackson's relatives reported he had been making threats while armed with a knife and a hammer.

Police said Jackson punched Adamson, knocking her to the ground, and continued to punch her once she was down. Jackson also punched Youngman, who used a Taser to subdue Jackson. Adamson was treated for wounds to the side of his head. Jackson was charged with two counts of third-degree assault and one count of resisting arrest.

On Oct. 17, 2008, Jackson was arrested on charges of assaulting Leslie Tyler Mulligan, 78.
