The attorney for former Oklahoma State coach Sean Sutton entered a not guilty plea to four felony drug-related charges Tuesday and said his client is in a treatment center.
The attorney, Trace Morgan, explained the reason for Sutton's absence at the arraignment to Payne County Special Judge Michael Stano, who set an April 5 hearing date. Morgan later declined to comment to reporters.
Sutton, 41, was arrested Thursday after agents from the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs said he picked up a shipment of painkillers under another person's name.
Authorities said the package contained about 40 pills, which included the anti-anxiety drug clonazepam and two forms of the stimulant Adderall. An affidavit said Sutton told the agent he had obtained the drugs from people he had met while in an inpatient rehabilitation program.
Prosecutors have charged Sutton with four felonies — obtaining a controlled dangerous substance (oxycodone) by fraud, unlawful possession of a controlled dangerous substance (oxycodone) without a prescription, attempted possession of controlled dangerous substances (clonazepam and Adderall) and use of a communications device to facilitate a felony.
Tuesday's highlights
Virginia Tech 87, No. 23 Wake Forest 83: Malcolm Delaney scored 10 of his 31 points in the decisive final seven minutes at Blacksburg, Va.
The Hokies remained unbeaten in 14 home games this season, moved into second place in the Atlantic Coast Conference and got the kind of win they need to help offset one of the nation's weakest nonconference schedules.
Wake Forest, which moved into the Top 25 for the first time this week, led most of the game until a 15-4 run by the Hokies pulled them even.
No. 11 Michigan St. 72, Indiana 58: Draymond Green scored 14 points and Kalin Lucas added 13 to lead the Spartans at Bloomington, Ind. It was the second straight win for the Spartans who took over sole possession of first place in the Big Ten. No. 22 Baylor 88, Texas Tech 70: At Waco, Texas, LaceDarius Dunn scored 30 points and Ekpe Udoh had 13 points, 11 rebounds and nine blocks for Baylor, which earned its third consecutive 20-win season.
