Lexmark International announced Tuesday that it has signed an exclusive five-year deal with regional bank BB&T to manage its printing.
The Lexington-based printer maker will standardize the printers available at BB&T's more than 1,800 locations in the 12 states in which it operates, including its branches in Lexington. Lexmark expects to reduce the number of printers from 30,000 in the bank's offices to about 10,000 Lexmark products, including multi-function laser printers that will help the company reduce costs.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Under the deal, Lexmark will monitor, manage and maintain the printers, providing toner and other supplies as needed. The company also plans to work with BB&T to streamline certain paper-based processes to help reduce costs. That type of streamlining typically includes scanning documents straight to e-mail rather than printing multiple copies for distribution.
■ Lexmark also announced Tuesday that Cummins Inc., which designs power-generation equipment, has selected it to manage its printing.
The worldwide deal runs for 51/2 years, Lexmark said, and includes 2,500 color and monochrome laser printers and multi-function products.
■ Lexmark's inkjet division announced Tuesday that it has developed a program on its Web-connected touchscreen printers that interfaces with the popular Evernote software.
Evernote allows users to organize thoughts, documents, images and more, and to access and update them using multiple platforms, including computers and mobile devices.
The Lexmark program allows users of its Interact, Prestige and Platinum printers to send scans of documents directly into their Evernote accounts with the touch of a button.
