Woman, infant killed in Pike fire

An early-morning fire in Mccarr in Pike County killed a 26-year-old woman and her 7-week-old son.

According to Kentucky State Police, a report of a structure fire on Farley Bottom in Mccarr came in at 4:48 a.m. Saturday.

The Blackberry Volunteer Fire Department, police and the state Fire Marshal's Office responded to the scene, where they discovered the bodies of Heather Smith and her infant son, Ethan.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Foul play is not suspected at this time, state police said.

Autopsies are pending at the State Medical Examiner's Office in Frankfort. An investigation continues by state police and the fire marshal.
