A Frenchburg man was sentenced to 210 months in prison Wednesday for possessing Oxycodone pills with the intent to sell and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, a news release by the United States Attorney's office said.

A jury found Rex Dean Meeks, 30, guilty of the charges in August. His sentence has been enhanced after officials determined he was a career offender, the release said.

Meeks was previously convicted in 2000 and 2004 for wanton endangerment and complicity to traffic a controlled substance, respectively, the release said. Both convictions occurred in Menifee County.

To be considered a career offender, a defendant must have at least two prior felony convictions of either a crime of violence or a controlled substance offense.
