Police arrested a man on two counts of wanton endangerment Saturday after he allegedly directed a laser pointer at a Lexington Police helicopter.

Police said John Wahl, 45, trained a green laser pointer — much more powerful than the red ones used by students trying to annoy their teachers — on the helicopter from a tree line at Patterson and DeRoode streets.

When directed at helicopters or other moving vehicles, police say laser pointers can temporarily blind the driver.

Wahl is in the Fayette County Jail on two counts of endangerment and two other unrelated charges.
