Equine photographer Tony Leonard and his wife Adelle Bergantino, visited Keeneland Wednesday for the first time since they became wards of the state.

The Leonards were made wards of the state last year after a court said they were unable to handle their personal and financial affairs. State officials have placed them in a Lexington nursing home and now control Leonard's collection of photos and negatives of champion Thoroughbreds.

Leonard's nephew Matt Bergantino and other family members are contesting the state's guardianship.

Matt Bergantino and Lexington attorney Rebecca Naser, who took the couple to Keeneland on Wednesday, have applied to be their private guardians. A hearing is set for April 26 in Fayette District Court.
