This is the first in a series of weekly updates about what's going on in Lexington and beyond related to the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.
■ On Monday, Lexington city officials will hold briefings on the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games for restaurant owners and other businesses who want to learn more about the event. Officials will be talking about ways businesses can get involved.
In addition, Sysco Food Services and Brown Foreman are planning a training program this summer for local restaurants on how to prepare for such a big event — everything from menu planning to protocol for European visitors.
Krista Greathouse, the city's Games liaison, said Sysco and Brown Foreman started the program in Louisville to help people prepare for the Ryder Cup. The city briefings will be held at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. in the council chambers of the Government Center at 200 East Main St.
■ On May 25, city officials will announce another entertainment lineup for Cheapside Park, one of the venues for the Spotlight Lexington festival that will take place during WEG. The main stage will be at the courthouse plaza, but Cheapside also will have performances every evening from Sept. 25 to Oct. 10. Triangle Park will be home to the Kentucky Market for the weekends during the games, with Kentucky artisans displaying their work and there will be free activities for children.
