J.D. Chaney, Kentucky League of Cities director of government affairs, has received a lifetime honorary membership from the Kentucky Municipal Clerks Association. The KMCA, which includes more than 300 city clerks from across the state, presented Chaney with the award in appreciation for his service to KMCA and for his commitment to clerks across Kentucky. Chaney joined KLC as a law clerk in 2001, became the organization's full-time member services counsel in 2003, and was named director of governmental affairs in 2009.
The Girl Scouts of Kentucky's Wilderness Road Council has honored Kentucky American Water Co. and Strand Associates with Community Awards. The awards recognize businesses, churches and organizations for significant contributions of support to the local Girl Scouts program. Kentucky American provides ongoing support for the Girl Scouts' Thin Mint Sprint and GEMS (Girls Enjoying Math and Science), both financially and with volunteers. Strand provided support to the search committee for the council's nationwide search for a new chief executive officer. Strand donated use of their facilities and communications technology in meetings before and during candidate interviews.
The Marine Corps League-Central Division, which consists of six states including Kentucky, selected Don Dixon as Marine of the Year during a three-day meeting in Cleveland. Dixon, of Lexington, had previously been elected as Dan Daly Detachment and Department-KY Marine of the Year.
