Incumbent has run the office professionally, competently and cleanly.

Fayette County property valuation administrator: David O'Neill

Incumbent O'Neill's qualifications and record make him a far better choice than his challenger, who was an embarrassment in the office and has run a misleading campaign.

REPUBLICANS

U.S. Senate: Rand Paul

If you want to alter the party's course, vote for anti-tax activist with an independent streak.

U.S. House 6th District: Andy Barr

Lexington lawyer represents the party's best hope for unseating Democratic Rep. Ben Chandler in the fall.

State Senate, District 12: Andrew M. Roberts

Lexington veterinarian and horseman would be a stronger, more independent voice in Frankfort.

NONPARTISAN

Lexington mayor (top two advance):

■ Jim Newberry

Incumbent Newberry's steady leadership in troubled times has earned him a shot at re-election.

■ Jim Gray The vice mayor showed more smarts and guts than Newberry on CentrePointe and other controversies, has imagination and management experience.

Distict Court judge; Division 3: (two advance):

■ Maria Ransdell

Incumbent has been on the bench for 13 years, also working with drug court, youth advocacy groups and alternative sentencing program.

■ Kim Wilkie

More than 25 years in mostly insurance law and some criminal defense.

At-large council (six advance):

■ Linda Gorton is smart, experienced, effective and would make a strong vice mayor.

■ Steve Kay is thoughtful, knowledgeable and committed.

■ Incumbent Chuck Ellinger II is a reliable presence on the council.

■ George A. Brown Jr, is a strong advocate for growing the economy.

■ Kathy Plomin is a former United Way president who wants to promote regionalism.
