A Montgomery County grand jury has indicted a man in connection with the disappearance of a woman who was reported missing in 2003, police said.

Jonathan French, 32, was indicted May 13 on a charge of tampering with physical evidence, said Montgomery County Sheriff Fred Shortridge. Police think French was present when the body of Sabrina Marie Vaughn was buried, Shortridge said.

Bass Webb, 30, a former boyfriend of Vaughn's, was indicted in April on charges of murder and tampering with physical evidence. Police said they think Webb strangled Vaughn in an apartment to which he had access.

French "had nothing to do with the murder but he did have some activity as far as disposal of the body," Shortridge said. "As far as the actual, physical burial, I don't know yet."

Skeletal remains found Jan. 14 in rural Powell County are thought to be those of Vaughn. While there is no positive identification, Shortridge has said there was enough evidence to indict Webb on a murder charge.

Initially, police were told that it could take up to a year for DNA test results that could help in identifying the body.

"I think it could be a lot faster than initially what we thought," Shortridge said. "I think in probably two or three weeks we'll get the results back."

Vaughn, who was in her 20s, was last seen in December 2003 at a home in Bath County and at another residence in Menifee County.

Montgomery County jail officials said French turned himself in Friday afternoon.
