A 2-year-old girl apparently drowned in a swimming pool in southern Laurel County Monday evening, according to Laurel County Sheriff Fred Yaden's office.

The child has been identified as Chloelynn Collier.

The death happened about 8 p.m. at the home of Chloelynn's grandparents, after her after mother had gone inside the house to prepare dinner, authorities said.

The toddler, her sister and two cousins were playing in the back yard at the time. When dinner was ready, the toddler's mother, who was not identified Tuesday, called for the children to come in, but only three of the four came in, according to a news release.

The mother went outside to look for the toddler and found her in the swimming pool, Yaden said in a news release.

Family members were performing CPR when sheriff's deputies and ambulance workers arrived. Chloelynn was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in London, where doctors tried to revive her, according to the news release.

A gate blocked access to the pool, but authorities say they think one of the other children left it open, allowing the little girl to get to the pool, said Kris Vanover, a deputy Laurel County coroner.

No preliminary results were available from an autopsy Tuesday, but Vanover said all indications are the girl's death was accidental drowning.
