The Dixie Belle riverboat got temporarily hung up Wednesday at a Camp Nelson camping site in Jessamine County on its way home to Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill in Mercer County.
According to Shaker Village spokeswoman, Aimee Darnell, the boat will not be moved further until Thursday because a private contractor from Somerset was unavailable. The boat is being moved home over land after it was knocked from its moorings and traveled several miles on the Kentucky River following heavy rains in early May.
Workers were able to get the 65-foot riverboat across a highway to Camp Nelson. Darnell said workers plan to move the riverboat to lower ground Thursday where they will replace much of the top of the boat, including the smokestacks, removed to avoid damaging power lines.
The Dixie Bell will be returned to its dock in the next few days. Locks at a dam prevented the boat from being moved home via the river.
