A graduate assistant with the University of Kentucky's football program was arrested early Sunday morning on charges of alcohol intoxication.
Matt McCutchan, a former UK center, was booked in the Pike County Detention Center about 7 a.m. Sunday and was released about 3 p.m., Pike County jail officials said Sunday.
McCutchan, who has been a graduate assistant with UK's football program since 2008, was arrested for alcohol intoxication after police were called to a local Hampton Inn in response to calls about a drunk man in a stairwell, Pikeville Police Department officials said late Sunday.
Alcohol intoxication is a misdemeanor charge. Jail officials said McCutchan was released after eight hours in jail — which is standard with the charge — and will have to appear again in court at a future date.
McCutchan could be not be reached for comment Sunday.
According to the UK Athletics Web site, McCutchan is working on a master's degree in sport leadership. While a player at UK, McCutchan was twice named the Southeastern Conference Lineman of the Week and was also named UK's Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman in 2005.
Officials with UK Athletics were not immediately available for comment.
