A Spotlight Lexington program announced Tuesday will allow participants to wear a $5 pin that entitles them to discounts at many local businesses.

Organizers of the Spotlight Lexington festival hope the pin will help local businesses benefit from the festival and the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, which will coincide this fall, said Krista Greathouse, a liaison to the Games in Mayor Jim Newberry's office.

The Games will take place Sept. 25 to Oct. 10. The festival will bring entertainment, arts and crafts and other activities to three downtown locations each day.

About 20 businesses will give discounts and incentives to customers who wear the Spotlight Lexington pin, Greathouse said.

Keeneland will give free admission for those wearing the pin on the opening day of the track's October meet and every Wednesday and Thursday throughout the meet, said Jay Blanton, director of marketing and communications for Keeneland.

Pins go on sale July 1 at Thursday Night Live. They also will be available July 3 during the downtown Fourth of July celebration and at 25 area Kroger stores starting July 5.

Lucia's World Friendly Boutique is offering pin program participants 10 percent off total purchases, said Teresa Hendricks, owner of Lucia's.

"We'd like to get our name out there and get some visitors with the World Equestrian Games," she said. "This is the first time we've tried anything like this."
