Awards and Honors
■ Patrick R. Yewell, who oversees Administrative Office of the Courts programs that help children and families, has been inducted into the University of Kentucky College of Social Work Hall of Fame.
Yewell was inducted in May and is the 15th person to become a member since the hall began in 1999. Those chosen for the hall of fame are considered to be outstanding in the social work profession by their colleagues and are selected by a committee of their peers. Yewell earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in social work at UK.
■ The following awards were presented to students and faculty at the 154th commencement exercises of Sayre School on May 29. The school's 60 graduates will attend 35 colleges and universities in 18 states. Collectively, the class was offered more than $4.5 million in college-sponsored, four-year merit scholarships.
Valedictorian: Fiona Rodgerson of Hillsboro, daughter of Brooke Alexander and George Rodgerson. Co-salutatorians: Tyler Gamble, son of Linda and John Gamble, and Kelsey Ryan of Wilmore, daughter of John Ryan and the late Kim Ryan. Headmaster's Medal: Eliana Greissworth, daughter of Randolph Hollingsworth and Richard Greissman. C.V. Whitney Cup: Carter Leer of Paris, son of Sarah Leer and the late George Leer. Abby Sayre Cup: Anne MacNeil, daughter of Janice and Steve MacNeil. Blue-Gold Awards: Emily Colclough, daughter of Elizabeth and George Colclough; Allison Hancock of Paris, daughter of Debbie and Seth Hancock; and Evan Ruschell, son of Pam and Ralph Ruschell. Optima Award: Callie Snowden of Winchester, daughter of Robin and Woody Snowden. Faculty awards were presented to Pam Sherman, lower school assistant director and preschool teacher; Alison Brown, a middle school English and social studies teacher; and Maggi O'Neill, an upper school science teacher.
■ Two rising seniors in Fayette County Public Schools who were selected for the 2010 Governor's Scholars Program were omitted from last week's list in the Life + Neighbor's Education Notes column. Allison Coop and Zachary Porter from Tates Creek High School have since been selected to attend the program.
Personnel moves
■ Terry Birdwhistell has been selected as the next dean of University of Kentucky Libraries pending approval by the UK Board of Trustees. Birdwhistell, associate dean for special collections and digital programs and co-director of the Wendell H. Ford Public Policy Research Center, has been credited with building programs and centers; obtaining significant archival collections; and actively engaging in scholarly research, publications and media productions during his 35 years of service in UK Libraries administration.
Birdwhistell, who has been serving as interim dean since January, holds a bachelor's degree in American studies from Georgetown College, master's degrees in history and library and information science from UK, and a doctorate in educational policy studies and evaluation from UK.
Birdwhistell succeeds Carol Pitts Diedrichs, who served as dean from July 2003 to December 2009.
Reunions
■ The Bryan Station High School Class of 1975 is looking for classmates and teachers interested in celebrating its 35th reunion, Aug. 13 and 14.

■ The Lafayette High School Alumni Association will host its annual reunion dinner/meeting at 6:30 p.m. July 16 at Champions Trace Golf Course, 1300 Delaney Ferry Road, Nicholasville. The cost is $25. For reservations, call (859) 278-1489.
Dr. James T. Tanner, Class of 1957, will be inducted into the 2010 Lafayette Hall of Fame. Asri Mumpuni, Class of 2009, will receive the $2,000 alumni scholarship for the 2010-11 school year. The following will be installed as officers for 2010-11: Suzan Johnson, president; Pat Ritchey, vice president; Ainslie Vice, secretary; and Barbara Ecton, treasurer.
