Legends' comeback countered in eighth

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Lexington Legends came back from a five-run deficit to tie the game, but West Virginia scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to beat the Legends 6-5 Saturday.

West Virginia jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning on a Jarek Cunningham RBI single, a Ramon Cabrera groundout to shortstop, a sacrifice fly by Jesus Brito and a Jose Hernandez RBI single.

West Virginia added another run in the third inning when Kyle Morgan was hit by a pitch and scored on a double by Bengie Gonzalez.

Trailing 5-0, the Legends got on the board in the fourth when J.D. Martinez led off with his 13th home run of the year.

Lexington tied the game with four runs in the seventh. Martinez led off with a single, and Kody Hinze hit his 13th home run of the year and first since May 18.

Aaron Bray followed with a double, and singles by Brian Kemp, Grant Hogue and Jose Altuve produced two runs to tie the score at 5-5.

The Power broke the tie in the bottom of the eighth on a single by Aaron Baker.
