The Lexington police department is investigating the theft of $2,500 worth of panties from the Victoria's Secret store at Fayette Mall.

Police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said at about 6 p.m. Tuesday, employees at Victoria Secret noticed that a display of about 200 panties was suddenly empty.

Employees were busy helping other customers when someone likely brushed the panties into a bag and left without paying, Roberts said. The panties were priced at $12.50 each.

A description of a suspect was not given. Roberts said a detective had not yet been assigned to the case Wednesday, so it was unclear whether surveillance footage was available.

A manager at Victoria's Secret said she could not comment.
