Two Cynthiana residents were killed in a Harrison County accident early Thursday on U.S. 62.

Miranda Walters, 30, was driving west in a 2009 Toyota Camry when her car crossed the center line about 5 miles west of Cynthiana and collided with an eastbound 2004 Toyota Corolla driven by Matthew Herrington, 21, Sheriff Bruce Hampton said.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene, Hampton said. There were no passengers in either car.

Witnesses said Walters might have been speeding, although it is unknown how fast either car was going, Hampton said.

Walters and Herrington were wearing seat belts, and their air bags deployed correctly, Hampton said.

The wreck remains under investigation, he said.

U.S. 62 reopened a few hours after the accident.
