McKEE — A Jackson County teen who charged friends attacked her because she is gay will be allowed to testify against them, a judge ruled Monday.

Attorneys for two of the teens charged in the case had argued Cheyenne Williams, 18, shouldn't be allowed to testify about the alleged attack because she gave inconsistent statements to police.

Williams also lied during an earlier court hearing, attorneys for Corinne Schwab and Ashley Sams argued.

However, District Judge Henria Bailey-Lewis said Williams will be allowed to testify. Her credibility is a matter for the jury to decide, the judge said.

Williams has said Schwab, Sams and another girl, who is a juvenile, assaulted her April 16 and threatened to kill her.

She had them charged with kidnapping an attempted murder, but the judge reduced the charges to fourth-degree assault and menacing.

The trial for Sams and Schwab is scheduled Aug. 19. The juvenile's case is confidential.
