Trooper Ron Turley, public affairs officer for State Police Post 12 in Frankfort, received the 2010 Champions for Children Law Enforcement Award at a statewide child abuse prevention conference in Lexington on Monday.

The award, presented at the Kids Are Worth It conference sponsored by Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky, goes to individuals who have worked to prevent child abuse and neglect, according to a press release from state police.

Turley, of Lexington, is a 24-year veteran of the state police who helps coordinate the annual Trooper Island Camp for children and works as a D.A.R.E. officer for area schools.

Capt. Mike Crawford, commander for Post 12, said Turley exhibits a "selfless and positive attitude" and has been involved with hundreds of child safety programs during his career.
