Ways to $ave Wednesday -- Meijer Mperks

Posted by JessicaFrye on September 1, 2010

I'm always looking for ways to cut my grocery budget and I was excited to see how Meijer is joining the bandwagon to help me do so.

Meijer has started an ecoupon program called Mperks. You sign up, using your cell phone number and when you check out, you push the Mperks button at the register and enter your phone number. You can load coupons at meijer.com and these will automatically redeem, saving you money on your purchase. Right now they have a $2 off $5 purchase coupon you can load to your account. This is a lot like Kroger cards, but without the card. To sign up go to, https://www2.meijer.com/mperks/Welcome.aspx

You will need to be able to accept text messages on your cell phone as this is how the confirmation code is sent to you. The program also states they will send text messages regarding deals occasionally. I have been signed up for a week and have only received the confirmation text message, nothing further.

When I signed up last week, there was a $5 off $5 purchase that has since expired. However, I was able to get a great deal on their 10/$10 deal last week. This is what I got:

* Meijer spaghetti sauce
* 2 Totinos pizza rolls
* 2 Grands biscuits
* Ronzoni pasta
* 3 cans Hunts diced tomatoes
* 2 Warm Delights

The total was $11 before coupons and mperks coupon. I paid 20 cents out of pocket!

I used the self checkout and after you scan your first item, the mperks button lights up at the bottom of the screen. You can then enter your phone number and the coupons will automatically redeem once you meet the requirements for that coupon. I believe you can use both a printed coupon and the coupon loaded to your Mperks account to get double savings. I have not tried this yet, but this is how the Kroger ecoupons work and I assume it is the same for Mperks.

There are numerous coupons for both Meijer brands and national brands on the Mperks website listed above. You can bet I have already loaded the $2/$5 purchase coupon to my account and am planning another frugal shopping trip to Meijer this week.
