Hagerstown jumps out to 6-0 lead, almost shuts out Legends

September 2, 2010

Hagerstown scored three runs each in the first two innings and went on to cruise past the host Lexington Legends 9-1 at Applebee's Park Wednesday night.

Left-handers Sammy Solis and Paul Applebee held the Legends to one run on four hits. Lexington didn't score until Barry Butera knocked in a run with a double with two outs in the bottom of the ninth.

The Suns banged out 14 hits, including seven doubles.

Adrian Nieto hit a homer in the second inning and third baseman Justino Cuevas had two doubles and knocked in two runs for the winners. J.P. Ramirez and Brett Newsome also knocked in two runs each.

It could have been worse. The Suns left 10 runners on base.

Luis Cruz (7-5) took the loss, allowing six runs on six hits in less than two innings.

Lexington has won two of the first three games of the series, which concludes with a 7:05 p.m. game Thursday.
