At this point, Lexington-area Kentucky football fans will have to pay to see Saturday's game against Western Kentucky. They can either pay for a ticket to see it in person at Commonwealth Stadium or watch the game as part of the ESPN GamePlan service.
That's because the game is being broadcast on Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast, a cable-only network that is not distributed by Lexington cable operator Insight Communications.
Situations like this have arisen before, and Insight has been able to strike a deal with the network in question for a one-time viewing of the UK game. But that's not the case yet this time.
"We are evaluating options right now," Insight spokesman Jason Keller said Tuesday.
Insight does offer ESPN GamePlan, though, and digital cable subscribers can order the game on the pay-per-view channel. A weekly package costs $24, according to ESPN GamePlan's Web site. ESPN GamePlan is also available online on ESPN360.com.
People in other parts of Kentucky will be able to watch the game on television. Comcast operates in part of the state but not generally in Central Kentucky, which is dominated by Insight and Time Warner Cable. The game will also air in markets served by New Wave Communications.
