JACKSON — Families arranged funerals Monday for six people who were shot Saturday at a Breathitt County mobile home court.
Police have said Stanley Neace, 47, killed his wife, stepdaughter and three neighbors, then himself.
The victims were: Sandra J. Neace, 54; Dennis Joe Turner, 31; Sandra Rachel Cockerham Strong, 28; Tammy R. Kilborn, 40; and Theresa Gail Fugate Blanton, 30.
A double funeral will be held for Turner and Fugate Blanton, who were cousins. Fugate Blanton called Turner's mother and stepfather, Brenda and Bobby Neace, her foster parents, according to information provided by Watts Funeral Home in Jackson. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with visitation at 5 p.m Tuesday. Burial will be at Tyra Cemetery in Breathitt County.
Fugate Blanton, whose family was featured in April on American Idol in its "Idol Gives Back" episode, had four children, ages 2 to 7, a cousin said. Actress Jennifer Garner visited Fugate's home on Ky. 541 and Breathitt County's LBJ Elementary School to talk about a literacy program.
Turner worked at Appalachian Regional Manufacturing in Jackson. He had two children who live with their mother in Gauge, according to information provided by Watts Funeral Home.
Services for Kilborn will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Deaton Funeral Home in Jackson. Visitation will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Services for Strong will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Watts Funeral Home, with burial at Kidd Cemetery in Beattyville. Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Ms. Strong had three children.
Strong's sister Annie Kidd said the family was trying to be sensitive to the delicate situation. Strong's mother, Sandra Smith Neace, was killed by her husband in the rampage Saturday. Sandra Neace was to be cremated and taken to Michigan with her family.
A private service was planned at Breathitt Funeral Home in Jackson for Stanley Neace.
"The one thing I would tell his family is that we hold nothing against them," Kidd said.
Police say the shootings stemmed from a late Saturday morning domestic squabble, but little else is known as far as a motive.
According to court records in Breathitt County, Stanley Neace had some legal problems.
Neace was divorced at least once, according to courthouse records and was convicted in 2005 of flagrant non-support, a felony that barred him from possessing guns. Records show that as of 2009, he owed more than $10,000 in child support to a Breathitt County woman — his son is now 19 — and that he completed five years' probation earlier this year.
He received Social Security disability payments, his only income, according to court records.
Neace also pleaded guilty in 1998 to misdemeanor sexual abuse after being accused of sodomizing two boys in 1992, then ages 6 and 4. He completed two years' probation after that plea.
