A Lexington man acted in self-defense when two others were shot, his attorney said Friday morning.

A grand jury will consider charges against Darnell Eugene Farrier, 29, who is accused of killing Jerry Wayne Waugh on Sept. 29. Farrier also is accused of shooting Jerrod Vice, 27. Both men were shot in the head.

Waugh and Vice, both of Paris, were found about 5 p.m. in a car stopped in the middle of the road on Kenton Street between Fourth and Fifth streets. Vice told officers that Farrier was the shooter, according to an arrest warrant filed in Fayette District Court.

Farrier's attorney, Craig Newbern, said Friday, "We feel the evidence clearly shows this is a self-defense matter."

Newbern said there were inconsistencies in Vice's story. Fayette District Judge Julie Goodman, in a hearing on the case on Friday, refused to reduce Farrier's bond, which was set at $267,600, even though Newbern argued that Farrier was not a flight risk and had contacts in the community.
