Success of Dad's Favorites is spreading

Triangle Grille in the Hilton Lexington/Downtown Hotel will cater its menu to South Carolina fans on Saturday.

James Caudill and Susan Bratton have had such success with their line of Dad's Favorites cheese spreads that they're putting their sandwich expertise into a deli.

Dad's Favorites Deli is open at 820 Lane Allen Road, through the arcade and on the right.

The take-out-only deli has a limited menu that includes chipotle Cheddar and roast beef on ciabatta au jus, green chili Jack with smoked turkey, Swiss spread and country ham melt, and homemade soups. Sandwiches are $4 to $6. Hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call (859) 309-1930.

Stack 'em up

The Oleika Shrine Legion of Honor Color Guard will have its annual pancake breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Oleika Temple, 326 Southland Drive. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children younger than 10.

Costumes, cuisine combined

Lexington Ballet will hold its first Masquerade Gala from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday at the Downtown Arts Center, 141 East Main Street. Food and drinks will be provided by Carrabba's Italian Grill and W+M Wine and Market. There will be a costume contest and an exclusive premiere of The Haunted, an original work by artistic director Luis Dominguez. Tickets are $60 a person or $100 a couple. Call (859) 233-3925.

Thai Orchid welcomes fall

Taste the Asian influences

The Friday and Saturday night menus at The Julep Cup feature Asian influences. Included are rock shrimp tempura with spicy sauce, miso-glazed cod, and shrimp and pork dumplings. Food from south of the Sahara

Good Foods Market & Café will host a Culture in the Café event with a sub-Saharan Africa theme Saturday. The buffet, $7.99 a pound, will be served from 2 to 8 p.m. Included are chicken in peanut tomato sauce, jerk lamb, grilled tilapia, injera bread, fried cabbage and coconut rice.

Sampling by Solanke Bomani and Kilimanjaro Foods will be 2 to 5 p.m. Susan Herlin, president of Kilimanjaro Foods, will present "African Cuisines and Cultures: A View from Ghana."

Furlong's opens new front porch

Onizim's Furlongs, at East Main Street and North Ashland Avenue, has completed construction of its covered patio, called Onizim's Front Porch. It has outside dining for 35 with televisions, heaters and fans. Executive chef John Thomason will prepare special entrees this weekend to celebrate the opening of Onizim's Front Porch. Triangle Grille at the Hilton Lexington/Downtown Hotel now has a flexible lunch menu that offers the choice of a featured entrée and two side dishes for $9.95.

On Saturday, the restaurant will serve a "Taste of Home" menu for South Carolina Gamecocks fans. Included are Cajun catfish and grits with collard greens, Charleston crab cake, and crispy-skin rainbow trout with red rice and collard greens. Triangle Grille is at 369 West Vine Street. Petra lowers some prices

Farmers market report

Bluegrass Farmers Market will be open through Oct. 30. Fall items include tomatoes, peppers, squash, green beans, potatoes, apples, greens, eggs, jams, baked goods, herbs, berries, pumpkins, gourds and fall decorations.
