Mathies gets 1st double-double in UK women's win

Dunlap leaves early after taking a charge

November 27, 2010

Kentucky sophomore A'dia Mathies recorded the first double-double of her career in ninth-ranked Kentucky's 91-59 rout of in-state foe Murray State in the Southern Mississippi's Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic in Hattiesburg. Kentucky (4-0) will play Southern Miss in the finals on Saturday.

Mathies, who scored a career-high 26 points and had 10 rebounds, rebounded from a rough outing offensively against Notre Dame when she was 2-for-9 from the field and scored six points. Her big game also helped make up for the loss of senior star Victoria Dunlap.

Dunlap hit her head on the floor after taking a charge late in the first half. Kentucky already had a big lead and she stayed out of the game as a precaution. Dunlap finished with four points and seven rebounds in 10 minutes.

Southern Mississippi 76, La.-Lafayette 73 (OT): The Golden Eagles overcame a 17-point first-half deficit to win the first game of their tournament.

Senior Brittany Johnson and junior Rachel Vigers led the Lady Eagles in scoring with 14 points apiece. Senior Tanesha Washington and freshman Jamierra Faulkner added 12 points each and Geneshia Dunbar chipped in 11. Dunbar also grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds.

Faulkner recorded her first double-double with the addition of 11 assists.
