When it's time to make New Year's resolutions, Bluegrass PRIDE has several environmentally friendly ideas.

The organization wants people to go to its Web site, BGpride.org, to register their resolutions, because "studies show if you make a public commitment, you're much more likely to keep it," PRIDE spokeswoman Lauren Bennett said.

PRIDE, or Personal Responsibility in a Desirable Environment, will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2011, so all the suggested resolutions include the number 10.

The proposed resolutions include:

■ Decrease household energy use by 10 percent.

■ Check car tire pressure 10 times a year.

■ Pick up 10 pieces of litter each month.

■ Carpool 10 times.

■ Organize 10 waste-free lunches at work by using real dishes, cups or silverware instead of styrofoam, cloth napkins instead of paper, or composting food scraps.

■ Volunteer 10 hours with PRIDE.

■ Buy or make 10 cloth napkins for daily use.

■ Invite 10 friends to do a neighborhood clean-up.

■ Opt for 10 electronic versions of bills or newsletters.

■ Report 10 litterbugs to PRIDE by calling 1-866-222-1648.

■ Plant 10 native trees or plants.

■ Encourage 10 friends to check out PRIDE's energy and water audit kits.

Everyone who commits to a green resolution will be entered in a drawing for prizes.
