Officials from the Lexington Division of Fire were investigating two fires early Tuesday, one that displaced several tenants at an apartment and another that caused heavy damage to a grocery store.

The fire at Landings Apartments on Lake Park Road began about 3 a.m. .

The fire started in an unoccupied apartment on the second floor, Battalion Chief Marshall Griggs said. Tenants in the apartments above and below the apartment where the fire started were relocated because of fire and water damage, Griggs said.

Investigators were still trying to determine a cause Tuesday morning.

The second fire began about 4:15 a.m. at Good Friends Food Mart, 536 West Fifth Street.

Firefighters tried to battle the fire inside the store but pulled out after part of the roof collapsed, Griggs said. The building was so badly damaged that inspectors feared it might collapse, Griggs said. No one was hurt.

A cause had not been determined Tuesday morning because fire investigators could not go inside.
