Eligible groups will be able to start voting online at 8 a.m. Monday to select members of the screening committee that will help choose a new superintendent for Fayette County Public Schools.

The screening committee is required by state law to consist of two teachers elected by teachers in the district; a classified employee elected by district classified workers; a principal elected by principals in the district; and a parent elected by the PTA presidents of each school.

Only members of those groups are eligible to vote. They have been provided with an online link to cast their ballots.

Online voting ends at noon Friday.

The Fayette County Board of Education also will select one of its members to serve on the screening panel. The board plans to approve the full panel at its Feb. 28 regular meeting.

The screening committee must review applicants for superintendent and submit a list of recommendations to the school board, which hopes to name a successor for retiring Superintendent Stu Silberman by July 1.

On Friday, the school district mailed invitations for proposals from about 75 superintendent search firms. But the board hasn't decided whether it will hire a firm to assist in the search.
