■ Anna Marie Lewis, a designer with Architectural Kitchens & Bath, has earned her National Council for Interior Design Qualification certification.
■ Betty Spain, owner of Bella Rose, has received the 2011 National Association of Women Business Owners Winner's circle award. Spain has been dressing women in the Bluegrass for 30 years, and she has helped raise more than $21,000 in support of Gavin Carr, which helped to make her the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's 2009 Woman of the Year. ■ Fowler Measle & Bell members Taft A. McKinstry and Elizabeth S. Feamster have been named to The Martindale-Hubble Bar Register of Preeminent Women Lawyers. McKinstry is the only lawyer designated in the field of bankruptcy for Lexington, Fayette County and Eastern Kentucky. Feamster is one of two women designated in the field of medical malpractice for Lexington, Fayette County and Eastern Kentucky.
■ Doug Burton, current president of the Kentucky Society of Professional Engineers, has been named the KSPE Young Engineer of the Year. Burton is an engineer and project manager with H.W. Lochner's Lexington office.
■ Bankole Thompson, an Eastern Kentucky University professor of criminal justice studies, has received the highest possible honor from the Sierra Leone Institute of International Law. Thompson, a native of the West African country, will be formally recognized as a fellow of the institute April 25 for his excellence in teaching and dissemination of international law in Sierra Leone and the subregion.
■ Michael Stoddart, co-owner and executive chef of Seasons Catering & Special Occasions, has received several awards recently through competitions sponsored by the National Ice Carving Association. In January, he won two silver medals for his Life Under the Pier sculpture at Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia and first place for his Flight Under the Sea at the Titanic Museum in Branson, Mo. Stoddart also competed in an ice-sculpting event at the Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., where his sculpture Sea Scene won third place. His 14-year-old son, Matthew, also competed in his first amateur competition in Pigeon Forge and placed second.
Each of Michael Stoddart's ice sculptures starts with a 300-pound block of ice, which he makes at Season's Catering on North Ashland Avenue.
■ TrinSoft has achieved Gold Enterprise Resource Planning Competency in the Microsoft Partner Network. TrinSoft is the only partner in Kentucky with the designation.
■ The American Council of Engineering Cos. of Kentucky has awarded the Grand Conceptor Award to Lexington-based Photo Science for its project "Out of the Fog." Their client was the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association, Coastal Service Center of Charleston, S.C. The project also was an ACEC national finalist. The following Lexington companies received a Grand Award from ACEC of Kentucky: Wilbur Smith Associates, Stantec Consulting Services, and Strand Associates.
■ Lexington-based Epiphany Foam Insulation has been recognized as a Top 25 Icynene Spray Foam Dealer in North America for the third consecutive year. Epiphany also was recognized as having the company's largest architect-specified project in North America in 2010 for its work at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center. ■ Buckner Hinkle Jr., an attorney with Stites & Harbison's Lexington office, has been given a Lifetime Achievement Award from Associated General Contractors of Kentucky. In addition to Hinkle's work as an attorney on behalf of the group, he was commended for his work on the Fairness in Construction Act, adopted by the Kentucky General Assembly in 2007.
■ Gayle Tomkinson has been named the 2010 Stevie Award winner in the Sales Education Leader of the Year category at a recent ceremony in Miami. Tomkinson works for Krafton Polymers of Houston from her home office in Lexington.
■ Highbridge Spring Water of Wilmore has received a bronze medal in a taste test at the oldest and largest water-tasting competition in the world. Highbridge was a first-time entrant at the Berkeley Springs (West Va.) International Water Tasting Competition, where it joined 42 other bottled waters from around the world. Highbridge finished third behind a perennial entrant from Canada. Prinstine Springs of Maryland, placed second.
■ Superior Battery Manufacturing of Russell Springs has received a 2011 Exporter of the Year award in the automotive category from ThinkGlobal, publisher of Commercial News USA, the official export promotion magazine of the U.S. Department of Commerce.
■ U.S. Rep. Harold "Hal" Rogers has been presented with the 2011 National School Safety Award by the School Safety Advocacy Council, a national organization. Lonnie Lawson, president and CEO of The Center for Rural Development in Somerset, received a Presidential Citation for recognizing the need to bring the 2011 Rural School Safety and Technology Conference to rural America.
