Lexington's Josh Teater is having fun playing golf in the Shell Houston Open, and he hopes Kentucky has fun playing basketball across town in the NCAA Final Four.
After an opening-round 67 at Redstone Golf Club on Thursday and an even-par 72 on Friday, Teater is only two shots out of the lead.
He hopes to stay near the top of the leader board Saturday afternoon, then head across town to watch UK play Connecticut in the Final Four on Saturday night.
Teater had no inkling he'd be able to see the Cats play in Houston.
"Back in February, I think we all knew chances were slim, for sure," he said.
His outlook changed a few weeks ago. While playing in the PGA Tour event near Tampa, Fla., he got to go see UK play in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament where they beat Princeton and West Virginia.
"After they did that, I thought they had a chance to get (to Houston)," said Teater, a Henry Clay and Morehead State graduate.
UK grads J.B. Holmes and Steve Flesch also teed it up in the Houston Open, and both plan on taking in the Final Four. Holmes made the cut, shooting 73-71—144. Flesch missed the cut at 73-75—148.
