Lexington woman dies after tree limb falls on her

Shirley Powell, 61, of Lexington died Tuesday evening after a tree limb fell on her at 327 Bassett Avenue.

Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said Powell and her husband were trimming trees in their yard when the limb fell. Her husband was not injured.

The accident happened a little after 6 p.m., and Powell was pronounced dead a short time later, according to a news release from the Fayette County coroner's office.
