Police have closed South Broadway from Pine Street to Vine Street because of a traffic accident at South Broadway and Maxwell that sheared a utility pole Wednesday night.

One person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries after the crash at 6:47 p.m., police Lt. Richard Bottoms said.

The road was to be closed until about 4 a.m. while crews replaced the pole, which was "sheared off at the base," Bottoms said. He said workers would need to jackhammer the sidewalk to replace the pole.
