Versailles police officer suffers minor injuries in wreck

May 19, 2011

A Versailles police officer suffered only minor injuries Tuesday after his cruiser ran off a Woodford County road and hit a plank fence, a utility pole and a tree.

Officer Kenny Rodgers was responding to a domestic-violence call when the 2008 Ford Crown Victoria he was driving south on Troy Pike (Ky. 33) ran off the road as he went into a sharp curve five miles south of Versailles.

Rodgers overcorrected and then went into the northbound lane and off the road again. That's when the series of collisions happened, said Versailles Police Lt. Daniel Clark.

"The three worst things you can hit are a plank fence, a utility pole and a tree, and he hit all three," Clark said. A section of the pole came through the passenger side window but did not harm Rodgers.

Rodgers was treated at Bluegrass Community Hospital in Versailles and released.
