A representative with Walgreens confirmed Thursday that the company has acquired customer files from Bondurant's Pharmacy in Lexington.

The independent pharmacy's owner, Eric Brewer, would not comment Tuesday on the pharmacy's future, but customers who called the pharmacy were told that the pharmacy would be closing for good that evening. The business is located on Village Drive off Versailles Road.

Bondurant's phone number was changed Wednesday to direct customers to the Walgreens on the northeast corner of Alexandria Drive and Versailles Road.

Jim Cohn, a Walgreens spokesman, said the company did not acquire the Bondurant's building — which is distinctively shaped like a mortar and pestle — but did acquire the pharmacy's prescription files.
